Mission Youth Week Skate Jam 2017

Written by: Hippie Mike

Another awesome skate contest on another beautiful sunny day, well after the Spring rain stopped that is…

Mission is always a great place for a competition, the kids there are all super appreciative and respectful, and now that the new park is there people will travel out for the day. The event started late due to rain and an issue with the generator but when it finally started it was totally awesome. The Minis got it started with some serious moves including kickflips, varial flips, wallrides and rock and rolls, while the Beginners went straight for the rails and the big gaps. The Intermediates stepped up the game with all kinds of style and the Advanced showed their skills on all features. Highlights of the day were Marco Simon boardsliding the big rail in Beginner, young Kyle Wolf and Drake Popeniuk battling it out in Intermediate and Seth Ew entering the Advanced category on a pair of rollerblades, the crowd was loving it! Allen Handley surprised everyone with his mixture of street and tranny skills and I actually thought he might win it but Brandon Bateman was unstoppable on the handrails and ledges sticking every trick he tried and finishing the finals with a solid backside tailslide down the hubba over the stairs. Solid skateboarding, solid competition, and of course raised a bunch of food and money for the Mission Youth Lounge.

It was another awesome day to celebrate Youth Week.
